UNCLOS
United Nations Convention of Law of the Sea

 
Under-exploited
A fish stock that has potential to sustain catches higher than those currently taken.
 
Undersized fish
A juvenile fish that is smaller than the legal size at which a species may by taken (i.e. caught and kept).
 
Universal solvent
Term applied to water, which dissolves more substances than any other.
 
Upwelling
The movement of colder, nutrient-rich, sub-surface waters toward the surface of the ocean.
 
Uropods
Appendages on the side of the telson, which make up the tail fan in crustaceans.
