Allocation committee

The Integrated Fisheries Allocation Advisory Committee is tasked with consulting and making recommendations to the Minster for Fisheries on the sharing of our fish resources.

The Allocation Committee is also charged with examining reallocation issues.

The Minister has overall responsibility for determining the process, timeline and making the final decision on the allocations for user groups.

Ian Longson, Chair

Mr Ian Longson was appointed Chair of the Allocation Committee on 1 December 2009. 

Mr Longson has had a distinguished career in both the private and public sector.  He is currently a business development consultant.  Prior to June 2009 he was the Director General of the Western Australian Department of Agriculture and Food for five years. 

Previously he was on the Executive team and held the position of Deputy Director General at the Department of Agriculture from 1998.  He has also worked as a senior consultant and manager of the Perth Office of ACIL Consulting (now ACIL Tasman), the Dairy Industry Authority of Western Australia, the Asian Development Bank and early in his career as an extension adviser with the Western Australian Department of Agriculture in the South West.

Norman Halse

Mr Norman Halse is a keen recreational fisher, conservationist and researcher. 

Mr Halse worked for the WA Department of Agriculture for 40 years, his career culminating in becoming the Department's Director General. 

His conservation interests have included serving as President of the Conservation Council of WA, Chairman of the National Parks and Nature Conservation Authority and as a member of the Environmental Protection Authority.  Mr Halse interest in recreational fishing is demonstrated by his service as a past Chair of Recfishwest.

Elizabeth Woods

Ms Elizabeth (Libby) Woods is Western Australia’s Deputy Chief Magistrate. 

Ms Woods chaired the Wetline Review Commercial Access Panel, which recommended the commercial access arrangements for the West Coast Demersal Scalefish Fishery, and has acted as Chair of the Allocation Committee. 

Steve Lodge

Mr Steve Lodge owns the Geraldton Fish Markets, the Shark Bay Fish Factory and Goldenwest Ice.

He also has interests in the rock lobster fishery and other processing establishments. 

Mr Lodge was a member of the West Coast and Gascoyne Management Planning Panel that recommended management arrangements for the West Coast Demersal Scalefish Fishery and was a member of the Purse Seine Management Advisory Committee.

Lindsay Joll

Dr Lindsay Joll is Director, Division of Aquatic Management, at the Department of Fisheries. He is a non-voting member of the Committee.
