Dr Claire Smallwood has 10 years of experience in recreational fishing and human use research. She gained this experience during postgraduate studies at Murdoch University then employment at Fisheries, the Department of Environment and Conservation, and the Research Institute for Aquaculture in Vietnam.
In her current role, she manages a variety of projects relating to recreational shore-based and boat-based fishing. These provide catch and effort estimates, and data on spatial and temporal usage patterns, to inform management.
These projects are undertaken throughout Western Australia and include the use of roving creel, access point and aerial survey methods as well as remote camera technology.
