Dr Alastair Harry completed his PhD at James Cook University (JCU) where he studied the fisheries biology of tropical whaler and hammerhead sharks, focusing in particular on age and growth.
After completing his degree in 2011, he worked as a postdoctoral reasearcher at JCU where he maintained an interest in conservation and management of sharks and rays, and worked on a variety of applied fisheries research projects.
Dr Harry’s main areas of expertise/interest include the age, growth and reproductive biology of fish and sharks, data analysis and programming, population dynamics, life history theory and conservation biology.
In July 2013, he joined Fisheries to work on the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) fishery accreditation project.
