Commercial fishing

We work closely with the Western Australian Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) and other stakeholders to sustainably manage the State’s commercial fishing industry.

Western Australia’s vibrant commercial fishing industry is mainly based on low-volume, high-value products, such as the western rock lobster. Our high-quality fisheries have given us an international reputation as a premium-quality seafood producer. Most of our seafood is exported, the major export destinations being China (including Hong Kong), Japan, USA, Taiwan and Singapore.

The management of all commercial fishing is underpinned by the world-class scientific research we undertake.

Seafood buyers in Australia and around the globe can be assured that Western Australian seafood comes from fisheries that are sustainably managed today and will continue to be so into the future.
